INDIA ART FESTIVAL TO SHOWCASE OVER 500 ARTISTS & 40 ART GALLERIES
—————————-
THE BIGGEST ART FESTIVAL STARTS IN MUMBAI NEXT MONTH AT MMRDA GROUND, BANDRA-KURLA COMPLEX.

—————————
India Art Festival, a modern and
contemporary art fair, starting from 28 Nov,
2012 is showcasing more than 3000 artworks.
Th ere are 36 art galleries and more than 500
individual artists participating in the India
Art Festival from 50 diff erent cities across the
world. Aft er a grand success of fi rst edition
of India Art Festival (IAF) last year at Nehru
Centre, Mumbai, the second edition of IAF
is shift ed to MMRDA ground at a business
district of Bandra-Kurla Complex, Mumbai.
Th e art festival is happening this year for the
extended period of fi ve days from 28 Nov to
02 Dec, 2012.
Th e second edition of India Art Festival
will have 175 air-conditioned booths for art
galleries and artists, huge outdoor sculpture
park, VIP Lounge, a big art book store and
auditorium for ‘IAF conversations’. India ArtFestival is the only mixed art fair module
in the world, in which art galleries and
individual artists exhibit under one roof. Th e
prime reason for such mixed art fair module
lays in the directive principles of Kalavishkar,
an organizing institution, promoting fi ne
arts since more than a decade. “In India,
there are 80,000 artists but only 350 art
galleries including public & private spaces
exist in the India with a long waiting list of
four to fi ve years for exhibition, says Prafulla
Dahanukar, president of India Art Festival.
She adds further, “considering the long
waiting list in the public art galleries, artists
from semi-urban & rural parts of India do
not get platform to exhibit their art in the
expensive metro cities like Mumbai, where
they can fi nd patrons for their art. India Art
festival provides this platform to such artistsalong with major galleries”.
India Art Festival is not only the biggest
platform for exhibiting artworks, but the
“IAF Conversations”, curated by renowned
poet & cultural theorist Ranjit Hoskote,
will make it an interactive experience for
the visitors. IAF conversations, a two-day
conference to be held in an auditorium
adjoining the booths at the IAF venue are
led by an eminent set of speakers from a
range of sites, scenes and practices within
the domain of contemporary art, including
artists, gallerists, museum directors, critics,
historians, institution-builders, cultural
organisers, editors and publishers. Th e
Speakers will present and discuss ideas,
insights and prognostications drawn from
their rich experience on the various subjects
& issues concerning contemporary art.
