Response to Stimuli – I [MUMBAI]
Art & Deal Correspondent
Response to Stimuli – Part I, curated by Kanchi Mehta opened at Sakshi Salon on the 14th of May. A group show with a certain freshness about it, featuring artists Ratna Gupta, Thomas Louis, Nishant Shukla, Loise Braganza and Elizabetta di Sopra. All living things have the ability to immediate changes based on their external or internal environment, which measures their innate sensitivity. These sensory receptors can receive information from outside the body, as in touch receptors found in the skin or light receptors in the eye. Apart from touch and sight, smell, pain, sound and taste are cardinal senses, which lead to emotions, memory and our judgment that are initiated at the cellular level. Memories of smell or sounds heard in the past create certain chemical reactions in our bodies that make us respond to these stimuli based on emotions of love, anger, pain, insight or strength. Everything is responding to everything at every moment from the macro to the micro level. In this exhibition, there are five artists whose works reciprocate to this title in their independent ways as well as a collective.
