Banaras Utsav 2013 – Sushma Sabnis
The Banaras Utsav – 2013, an art, literature,
architecture and cultural extravaganza with a wide
range of programs planned, is aimed at reclaiming the
city’s reputation as the cultural heritage centre of the
country. The Banaras Utsav 2013 commences on 24th
October 2013 and will present a plethora of arts, crafts,
literature, theatre, films, architecture and heritage walks,
music, poetry recitation sessions, and much more for the
enthusiasts.
The Utsav will be held at multiple venues within the
city to display the versatility and architecture of the city.
From talks at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) at Assi
Ghat, Shivala Ghat, Jukaso Ganges Hotel on Ganesh
Ghat, Amrit Rao Peshwa Palace, Raja Ghat, Benia Bagh,
National College, Golgadda to the Sunbeam School
Varuna, the festival has something for everyone.
The Banaras Utsav will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha
Speaker, Meira Kumar and has a long list of dignitaries
who will grace the occasion, from authors like Amish
Tripathi, Chandramouli Upadhyaya with their talk on
Mysticism of Shiva in literature. The event also expects
the presence of literati like author and journalist, M J
Akbar, Image Consultant Dilip Cherian, eminent writer,
poet and lyricist Gulzar, journalist and writer Jerry
Pinto, and writer-poet Prasoon Joshi. Film makers and
photographers delight in the Varanasi locale, and so
have musicians, like Sameer Sharma Film maker and
folk singer Malini Awasthi, who also will be present. Dr
Vishwanath Pandey of the BHU will be organising the
heritage and architecture walks for the interested on the
