RELIGIOUS SYNCRETISM IN MANIPUR: A STUDY OF FEW INDIGENOUS SCULPTURES OF THE MEITEI SOCIETY
Manipur is one of the seven sister states in the North Eastern part of India, but due to its geographical location, it appears to be isolated.

It is surrounded by the hills of Nagaland in the north, Cachar district of Assam in the west, Lushai hills and Burma down south and the Chin Hills of Burma, and partly by Mizoram inthe east. Manipur had an independent status 1819 A.D1. But it wasn’t a stranger to Indian civilization and culture. Its culture has been a part of Indian culture. India had sent a band
of Brahmans and religious missionaries to Manipur a lot of times. Manipur adopted all aspects of Indian culture and transmitted them to Burma, China and other lands of South East Asia.
