SALT N’ PEPPER:
A JOURNEY INTO THE WORLD OF FOOD

Salt N’ Pepper, a 2011 film directed by Aashiq Abu and
produced by Luscam Creations has pumped a new lease of life
into the Malayalam industry reeling under formulaic patterns
for commercial gains. In spite of being a limited release (released
only in 38 cinemas), it became a box office success and managed
to spawn around 1.1 crores in its opening week, becoming the
second Malayalam film (after Traffic) in 2011 to complete 100
days run in the release centers. Starring Lal, Swetha Menon, Asif
Ali and Mythili in lead roles, the main narrative centers on food,
to be more precise, on “Thatillkutty Dosa”. True to its claims, the
subtitle states, “Oru Dosa Undakiya Katha” (The Story of how a
dosa was made), the story unravels the life of Kalidasan( Lal), an
unkempt archaeologist and Maya(Sweta Menon), a dubbing artist
and how things undergo a sea of change after one of Maya’s calls
