At a time when creative minds around the globe are trying to explore life beyond cramped
quarters of grand narratives and points where metaphors and reality co-exist, five young photo
clickers from the furthest most river valley in Assam have also engaged themselves to galore the
real life ‘Infinity’ nodes where light and shadow diffuses onto one another to come out as eternal
frames.
Infinity, a group of five passionate young photographers all hailing from the ‘mainland’ Silchar
has recently come up with their maiden collection of masterpieces under the banner ‘LIGHT n
SHADOW’ in the 21st edition of Silchar Book Fair from December 25, 2012 to January 5, 2013.
The event created quite a stir amongst the intellect fraternity of Silchar and the Barak valley
as well with waves of appreciation pouring in from all quarters for the ‘men in focus’ namely
Dibyendu Das, Arup Mazumder, Jayanta Deb, Bishwarup Chakraborty, and Bikramjit Deb Roy.
Tuesday, the 25th of December 2012, marked the opening night of LIGHT n SHADOW, which
already created frenzy in Silchar’s creative community from its inception in August earlier that
year. The opening evening featured a broad spectrum of Silchar’s Who’s who, creative talents,
accompanied by off shore dignitaries from Bangladesh, thought-provoking images and interesting
conversation.
The LIGHT n SHADOW exhibition tried to explore artists’ creative use of lenses with respect
to lighting parameters to enhance their work. A new collection of 37 photographs was on display
by ever dynamic and emerging ‘Infinity’ men who are always ready to challenge the norms and
conventions of stereotype photography.
LIGHT n SHADOW is itself an adventure in artists’ use of some creative straits in the realm
of photography and ‘Infinity’ specialises in some of them. This pentagon of Dibyendu-Arup-
