In the Pink of Art
The world will see a pretty pink cloud of art and culture rising from the city of Jaipur this November.
Ushering in a little bit of warmth for the cold winters to come, is the Jaipur Art Summit – a plethora
of intense art and cultural activities to cater to the five senses of the every hungry soul of the artistic
individual, previews Sushma Sabnis. Planned to take place from 7th November to 11th November
2013, the much talked about Jaipur Art Summit promises to be a plethora of colour, form, texture and sensations, a trademark of the cheerful pink city of Jaipur. An initiative of the Progressive Artists Group (PAG) of Rajasthan and a group of like minded artists of the state, the Jaipur Art Summit hopes to display its rich cultural heritage and legacy in fine arts with its traditional Shekhawati murals,Phad scrolls, Kavads and Rajasthani miniatures not to mention
the patronage of the erstwhile royals of the city. A first of itskind in the state, the Summit deems to take this legacy forwardand be the next trendsetter.The Summit, a five day long event, is divided between two iconic venues in the city, the Clarks Amer and Jawahar Kala Kendra, an architectural masterpiece of Charles Correa. The Summit will display creative expressions across many mediums and formats like canvas, visual and digital art, art installations, sculptures, interactive art and other contemporary and folkcentric expressions. Through all this the Summit aims to create a premier platform for modern and contemporary art while promoting dynamic talents from across the country. When asked about the long run impact of the Summit, Professor R. B Bhaskaran ex-chairman of the National Lalit Kala Akademi was most upbeat and expects a lot of changes to happen now. He believes there are lots of good artists in Jaipur and recently new galleries have opened up, making art as attractive as the heritage sites in Jaipur. The Summit seamlessly brings together the best of artists, art critics, scholars, writers, art collectors, buyers, performance artists, musicians and art students from across the country. Art works of stalwarts like Anjolie Ela Menon, Jatin Das, Prabhakar Kolte, Chintan Upadhyay and many others will be viewable at the special art camp organized from 5th November to 11th November 2013 and a two day seminar by scholars like Mr. Prayag Shukla, Mangalesh Dabral, Dr. Ashrafi Bhagat and Johny M.L among many others of the art world.
In addition to this, there is an All India Exhibition of about 150 art works on display of 100 artists from all over the country which will be held at all the four galleries at Jawahar Kala Kendra. With an array of cultural evenings, live bands, fusion music, an exclusive Art Haat, and cuisines exclusively organized for the visitors, the Summit will be a mix of culture,
