Lalit Kala Akademi announces 20 Lalit Kala Akademi Awards

The National Exhibition of Art organised annually by the Lalit Kala Akademi is one of the most prestigious event in the calendar of Indian art fraternity. The 62nd National Exhibition of Art being held this year exhibits the artistic brilliance and is also a platform to give appreciation and recognition to outstanding artists on a nationwide scale. The works on display have emerged on the forefront both in terms of material application and aesthetic appeal. The exhibition covers artworks from a broad range of mediums such as paintings, sculptures, graphics, photographs, drawings, installation and mixed media.

The selection of the artworks was done on the basis of the quality of execution, freshness of images, innovative use of materials, novel application of colour and originality of stylistic markers in the works.


A total of twenty awardees have been selected by our esteemed panel of two tier jury. The winners for the 62nd National Exhibition of Art are Anand Narayan Dabli, Bhola Kumar, Devesh Upadhyay,  Digbijayee Khatua,  Ghanshyam Kahar, Jagan Mohan Penuganti, Jintu Mohan Kalita, Kusum Pandey,  Laxmipriya Panigrahi,  Manjunath Honapura, Mohan Bhoya, Nema Ram Jangid, Nisha Chaddha,  Prabhu Harsoor,  Prem Kumar Singh,  Pritam Maity, Rishi Raj Tomar, S.A.Vimlanathan, Shivanand Shagoti and Suneel Kumar Kushwaha.

Each awardee will be honoured with a plaque, a shawl and a prize money of two lakh.

The jury of this exhibition comprised of distinguished artists and critics across the spectrum. The Lalit Kala Akademi nominated selection jury for the first tier(Selection Jury) namely S/Shri Dattatrey Apte, Vipul Prajapati, Vasudev Kamath, Yogendra Tripathy, Mithun Kumar Datta, Deepak Panikkar and  Shiv Kumar Kesaramadu. 

And The second tier Jury(Award Jury) for the selection of  20 Awards  consisted of S/Shri Anil Kumar, Manjunath Kalledevar, Nikhileshwar Barua, R. P. Nigam, T. Sudhakar Reddy, V. Nagdas and Vilas Shinde. 

Hon’ble Vice President of India Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu will confer the Akademi awards to the winners on 9th April 2022 at 11 a.m. in Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region Shri G.Kishan Reddy, Hon’ble Culture Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and culture Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal will also grace the Award function at Vigyan Bhawan.

62nd National Exhibition of Art will be inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Tourism, Culture and Development of North Eastern Region Shri G.Kishan Reddy on 9th April 2022 in the Galleries of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi in the gracious presence of guest of Honour Hon’ble Culture Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and culture Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal and Hon’ble Culture Minister of State for External Affairs and culture Smt  Meenakshi Lekhi. 

Chairman of Lalit Kala Akademi Mrs. Uma Nanduri Said that “after a long period of Covid-19 pandemic, this exhibition on national level will encourage the artist. In this year the number of awards  have been increased from 15 to 20. I congratulate all the award winners.”

Akademi received 5450 entries from 2351 artists, out of which Ist tier Jury(Selection Jury) selected more than 300 exhibits for display in the exhibition. IInd Tier  Jury(Award Jury)  selected 20 artworks for award for 62nd National Akademi Awards. 

Lalit Kala Akademi is presenting a panorama for one and all.

Lalit Kala Akademi the National Academy of Arts is an institution that has rendered service to the arts in the nation long before the world woke up to the global impact of Indian Art. Through the leadership of its members and staff, the Lalit Kala Akademi manifests a commitment to the service of the visual arts by establishing, preserving and documenting visual art of the highest order that in turn reflects the vitality, complexity and unfolding patterns of ancient, modern and contemporary art in India. 

As a cultural body that hovers above the entire Indian subcontinent, it plays a role in inter-linking the diverse cultures of India to weave an aesthetic spread that is noted for its colourful threads of creative genius and brilliant designs that delineate fascinating features of Indian life. Perceiving Indian culture comprehensively with all its artistic impulses, conflicts, contradictions and limitations, the Akademi has been functioning with the panoramic view of involving all genres of creativity in its activities. It has a vision that takes care of the traditional art of India as well as of helping artists to imbibe many of the contemporary happenings in the international art scene. 

Lalit Kala Akademi, National Academy of Art, New Delhi was set up by the Government of India as an autonomous body, on 5th August, 1954. The Akademi was given statutory authority in 1957, under the Societies Registration Act 1860. Since its establishment it has been serving the entire country by promoting the creative endeavors of Indian artists and bringing their arts to bear upon a large number of people, thereby playing an important role in defining and redefining, the sensibility of an entire culture, falling under the visual arts spectrum.
