Spirit of Children : Christine Margotin

Uma Nair

At the celebration of India International Centre’s Experience Festival as well as Lalit Kala Akademi ChristineMargotin’s sculptures of children drew gazes and interest alike.” I do not paint bronze but I prepare my own coloured patina,” states Christina about her works that sat rather cosily in the IIC Sculpture Court as well as the LKA. Human imaginations flourish and grow between the covers of a favourite book! With details from the children’s expressions to their moment of gesture and poise to their antics and their joyous fingers, these childhood sculptures enter the world of reality in your garden of thoughts and intentions. Christine’s impressive, over three foot tall bronze childhood related statues are expertly finished with a classic bronze patina accented by an antiqued emerald verde patina to bring out amazing details. Each work was cast and crafted one piece at a time in the traditional lost wax method, which highlights the detail of the sculpt and guarantees lasting beauty. Sure to be a focal point, her works reminded one of the famed Design Toscano children statues, heirloom-quality bronze children statues.
