INDIA ART FAIR

PARAMJOT WALIA

The 6th Edition of the India Art Fair is one unique venue for the galleries to flaunt their inventor, and also it is a cauldron of a variety of ideas. While Delhi based galleries gear up for participating in the IAF, our correspondent Paramjot Walia takes a quick look at the ingredients in their bouquet of visuals.

The India Art Fair held in New Delhi is South Asia’s leading art fair for modern and contemporary art from across the world. Trespassing traditional conservative boundaries and re-defining ‘creativity’, India Art Fair provides an inspiring and friendly atmosphere bringing thousands of paintings, prints, sculptures and photographs all under one roof. Pursuing the aim of promoting the emerging Indian art market, the 6th edition of India Art fair shows both variety and vitality of the art market with Vadehra Art Gallery exhibiting some fantastic works of a very wide range of artists it represents to Gallery Art Positive going solo with the sculptures of Dimpy Menon. It offers a fair platform where the works of young, emerging artists hang alongside some of the biggest names. The space reserved for Vadehra Art Gallery will have a section for modern masters such as MF Husain and SH Raza, also showcasing works by senior artists like Gulam Mohammed Sheikh and Arpita Singh, and contemporary artists such as Anju Dodiya and Shilpa Gupta. Works by emerging artists such as Paribartana Mohanty and Sujith SN will also be exhibited. Many of these artists are producing new and interesting works for Vadehra Art Gallery that will be exhibited for the first time at the India Art Fair 2014. The Fair will also see Atul Dodiya’s diptych works from his ‘Painted Photographs/Paintings Photographed’ series. One half of the paintings show Atul’s painting skill, while the other reveals the photographer. Atul places works/ influences of Western art juxtaposing the black & white images of Gandhi. Dodiya Last year Dhoomimal showcased Jamini Roy’s works, ‘Jamini Roy: India’s First Modernist’ recieving an overwhelming response. This year too Uday Jain, Director Of Dhoomimal Gallery, expects a positive and strong feedback.
