March 2022: Art Centrix Space is delighted to be launching BRINK curated by Monica Jain, their first exhibition of the season, on 10th March 2022. The exhibition features 24 works by 7 contemporary Indian artists including Bhargav Barla, Bholanath Rudra, Ganesh Gohain, KP Pradeepkumar, Neeraj Patel, Shalina Vichitra and Tom Vattakuzhy.

Monica Jain, the curator-director of Art Centrix Space explains,”The curatorial premise -BRINK, primarily foregrounds the idea of the artist being a harbinger of change – one who is painfully aware that life has presented an unprecedented opportunity for the world to come together with urgency in order to achieve something that has been never possible singularly so far”

The title, BRINK, generates a sense of being at the edge of something powerful where reimagining and revaluation of actions and practices are not only imperative but critical. Jain has always believed that the unconscious can bring out different states of mind through aesthetics and artistic practices. From both the curatorial and philosophical perspective, this exhibition talks about the meaning of events and a sense of something inevitable that is

about to happen. It poses questions like – can it be controlled and can such interventions generate a paradigm shift both historically and psychologically? With such questions, this philosophical proposition highlights the significance of getting a powerful grip on the present for the immediate future.

In addition to exhibiting some of Art Centrix’s Space’s established gallery artists, Tom

Vattakhuzhy, Ganesh Gohain and K.P. Pradeepkumar the exhibition also features works from Bhargav Barla, Bholanath Rudra, Shalina Vichitra and Neeraj Patel who showcase their artistic practises through photographs, paintings, and sculptures. BRINK hopes to create a sense of harmony within binaries despite the pauses, gaps, reversals and paradoxes between them.

BRINK also offers viewers an opportunity to see the Art Centrix Space’s expanded space that displays site-specific installations – the beautifully landscaped two acres precinct in South Delhi houses the main gallery space and sculpture garden.

The extended and renovated Art Centrix Space is intended to provide a stimulus to artistic and curatorial practices in Delhi. Developed as a hub for South Asian contemporary art, it will enable the gallery to build on its existing programming acting as both a gallery and a space for cultural exchange. Following BRINK, Art Centrix Space have an exciting calendar of upcoming exhibitions including international guest curators, upcoming programming includes:

University of Baroda in 1998, in lieu of keeping him and his art practice in line with the winds of the changing art scenario, he delved into an unlearning and relearning process reassessing art from mediaeval times to the present assimilating what his heart responded to. This became a crucial step in his artistic career and significantly influenced the formation of his visual language with a structural solidity and organisation. From 2010, he devoted himself solely to his art. With the intention of bringing art close to society, he engaged himself in illustrating periodicals with virtually stand alone paintings that he preferred to call ‘story-paintings’. A controversy over one of his works resulted in the retraction of the magazine itself, leaving him disillusioned and demoralised, and finally did away with it in 2016. One of his history paintings titled ‘Death of Gandhi’ received nationwide acclaim and found its way to the cover painting of Kerala budget in 2020. Tom has participated in various curatorial exhibitions in the past, ‘Interiorities of Individual Entities’, curated by Monica Jain at Art Centrix Space in 2019 is one of them. He has been the recipient of awards like AIFACS Award, New Delhi in 1997 and 1998, Kerala Lalit Kala Academy Award in 1997, National Scholarship, HRD New Delhi in 1996, Haren Das Award, Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta in 1995. He lives and works in Muvattupuzha, his hometown in Kerala.
