Surrealism Illustrated
Paramjot Walia

The articles, ‘Ode to My Masters’ and ‘Shining from the
Sidelines’ seep into the artist’s personal life and help you
understand the reflections in his works. It is interesting to
see how surrealism has influenced the minds so much that
it screams for acceptance and its due place through every
form and medium. Visconti Surrealist Collection, a tribute
to Dali’s melting watch, and Eiko Ishiko’s Fabric accentuates
the mysterious and the unexplainable.
“Ceci n’est pas une pipe” French for “This is not a
pipe” by René Magritte challenged definitions within
representational art, mocking at our intellect and tearing
apart our conventional wisdom, making one think beyond
the well conditioned boundaries of thought and notion.
Sculptures and murals are more than dialogues or
chronicles, they are a living era representing the times
they have stood by to tell us their stories. This passion is
reflected by Hirendro Mullick’s inspiring dedication for
conservation of one of world’s premium collections at the
marble palace, Kolkata and by the muralists of the Chola
temples.
