War of Relics

Uma Nair

“When I did the The War of the Relics piece I had a complicated message – all religions seek to unite humanity and keep them in peace but the symbols and relics they come up with divide them and encourage confrontations.” -K.G.Subramanyan

This monumental work by K.G. Subramanyan, had its debut at the India Art Fair in 2013. With a height of nine feet, and a 36-feet width, with 16 panels, each measuring 54 x 54 inches this epic mural is an excellent instance of the octogenarian’s inimitable style, with glorious black and white strokes. According to gallery director Geetha Mehra, “The fluidity of form and
lines, the vibrant energy infused in the work and its sheer scale and clarity of content all speak of the master at his best.”
