Giving Time to Time:
Film pieces by Manon De Boer

Born in 1966 in Kodaikanal, India, Manon De Boer gained her professional art education in Rotterdam and is currently based in Brussels. Working primarily in photographs and films, De Boer has widely exhibited her works in the international art arena. The exhibition has a very imaginative title: ‘Giving Time to Time’, emphasising the fact that whether it’s fleeting or sustained, time demands recognition. The exhibition presents six film pieces that highlight the artist’s understanding of time and timelessness; occupancy and leisure; inner and outer space; power and vulnerability; moments and duration. De Boer started with photography as a medium and then thought about giving duration to a photographic image through film. Her idea is to enhance the viewer’s awareness about watching an image for a fixed duration through a slow, fluid sequence with very minor changes.
