Kota Neelima, a far-sighted artist-author
deconstructs spirituality in modern times by
re-examining the ancient Indian philosophy
propounded by the Upanishads through
the series of twenty eight artworks titled,
‘What the Eyes can see’. Her creative process
begins with a question which is timeless and
countless followed by a lengthy research. Her
artistic expressivity is brilliantly infused with
the realities and conceptions and seeks to rearticulate
the present visual in the context of
the unseen past and seen present. The artist
follows an elaborate process of making the
works that begins with extensive research
of texts, followed by charcoal drawings on
paper, before finally converting them to oil
paintings depicting the her multi-faceted
perspective. Uniquely layered in colour, each
of the elements used by her in the painting
has a symbolical meaning and connotation
that acquaints the viewers with multiple
realities.
