If you have never seen a light how do you know what it is?
If you have never contemplated, how do you know what life is?
If you have never discovered self, how do you who you are?
Our memory is our coherence; it is our past and our future. To know who you are as a person, you need to have some idea of who you have been. Well, which is why discovering and rediscovering commutates the driving motor within us and art emotes this very aspect. The syllables of expressions and indulgence whence chanted together create art and artists. In the words of Wordsworth, “Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart”- The art come from within, is what my heartfelt, when I experienced the Indo-Korea art camp held in Udaipur. The one week camp was organized by Dharohar (Udaipur) a committed non-profit organization which work towardsbuilding curiosity, thinking skills and awareness in the community, Academy of Visual Media (AVOM), an art trust based in Delhi and P N Choyal Foundation (Udaipur). It had seven artists from Korea, four artists by AVOM trust and sixartists from Udaipur.
All the artists camped at the Secure Meters grounds to spread spontaneity and creativity. Legacies of silence amidst plethora of variations seemed as though chromatic tones are an act of child’s play. Each of the canvasses emit powerful exuberant energy filled with laudable and ambivalent ideas. Countless interactions brimmed with observations and contemplations took me to Zen mode. I shall credit my flow of ideas to Shobhaji who endlessly communicated and helped me decipher the real essence of ‘Art Education- name sake or a social cause’.Each day was a new learning, as there were visitors of all kinds, and the most commendable part was that each one of them had variety to share. Rigorous questioning and enquiry led me to understand the learning outcomes of Art camps.
There is no other way to evolve than in the craft of art making. All the artworks produced during the workshop ruminate dialogic processes- whether in the form of introspection of interactions with the surroundings. The spirit of forms is remarkably depicted and justified. Min Joo Lee expressed her mind through reflections and resonances of the cities. A sense of spirituality is seen in the work of Man Su Lee. where he shows ‘the sense of veneration’. Young Sook Ho plays with vowels and consonants to create a dialogue between the artwork and onlooker. Eun Sook Lee shows the mystical memories of the ancient towns. Shin Ha Soon portrays the traditional and contemporary landscapes. Bo yeon Kim sends out the revelations of surroundings. SeongMi Lee shares her love for flora via perfumed imagery of a flower.
