Jyoti Bhatt
Tasveer and Vacheron Constantin present photographs by Indian artist Jyoti Bhatt for the first time in Mumbai. The exhibition chronicles the artist’s travels across rural India in the mid-60s, where he visited villages and tribal regions photographing folk arts and craft traditions in their original environments, along with the people who inhabited these spaces. These images constitute an important chapter in the history of photography in India, demonstrating great artistic sensibility, creativity and a unique understanding of traditional cultures. Each print can be seen as an artwork in its own right as well as a document and visual aide to Bhatt’s paintings and prints.
