Kounteya’s Kolkata-Sainthood Project
Uma Nair
Kounteya’s photographs have become a massive draw across Italy with hundreds of people stopping to see the photos closely and learn about the city that gave Mother Teresa her name.
Imagine a set of photographs that transcend boundaries of caste and creed-works that celebrate the power of culture and everyday idiom of lifestyles. Black & white and coloured works that speak of the beauty of getting ready for Durga Puja, the simple flower market, the colonial classic buildings, the power of a pair of hands belonging to a labourer – to a pair of eyes each image communicates a slice of Kolkata that is both time past and time present. These images belong to Kounteya Sinha’s Sainthood Project in Rome.
