A FUSION OF ARCHITECTURAL STYLES- ISLAMNAGAR FORT :
The Indian Hindu lawgiver Manu
describes the utility of the Forts as, “a
warrior protected by the fort can fight
with hundred enemy soldiers and a
force of one hundred fighting from the
fort can encounter ten thousand enemy
soldiers.” Similarly while stating the
significance of forts for a king, Manu
further adds that just as animals like
deer need not fear the hunter if they
take shelter, in the same way king in
a fort too can remain protected from
the invader. In the ancient times, the
word generally used for fortifications
are durga, kota or pur. The word durga
seems to derive from the Sanskrit
word durgam, meaning difficult also
finds a mention in the Arthashastra of Kautilya.
