K G Subramanyan:
The Bodhi Tree In Indian Modern Visual Arts Scenario

As an artist K.G.Subramanyan explored his artwork through sensuality and conceptualized the human body not as a realistic form, but where man and woman occupy a pre, or perhaps post- rational space, where paradoxically the less rational animals become more primarily human.

“Art is something I have to do; my reason for being.” K G Subramanyan; popularly known as Mani Da, one of the most prominent influential personalities in the history of Indian Art. Mani Da, recipient of Padma Shree, Kalidas Samman, Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and including various significant honours and awards in the relevant arena – is regarded as one of the pioneers of Indian modern art. With versatility in approach to his practise, K G Subramanyan engaged in various genres, he was a painter, sculptor, muralist, printmaker, writer and inspirational educationist and also an academician.
