The world just stopped dancing and India has lost a jewel today. Our heartfelt tributes to the Kathak Samrat, Padma Vibhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj Ji. An exponent of the Kalka-Bindadin gharana of Lucknow, he passed away in the early hours of Monday at the age of 83. He dominated the stage with a flick of his wrist, mesmerized audiences across the world and showcased the Indian classical dance form Kathak. His legacy lives on through his dancers who imbibed his body language and straight lines. Shat Shat Namat to him for preserving the excellent culture and priceless art of India.
