Barren Red: Solo Exhibit By Puneet Kaushik

Myna Mukherjee

Contemporary artist Puneet Kaushik’s new solo ‘Barren Red’ evokes a certain coming of age nostalgia. Having keenly followed his substantive body of abstract and plurally textural work over the years, one can see that Barren Red is reminiscent and echoes his previous signature style but with a radical difference. The works have a distilled refinement and a quiet conviction that has endured and is cemented by the passage of time. Barren Red assembles roiling vortexes of color, line and material that are outpourings of Kaushik’s own mind but are expressions that might stand for the terror of all modern humanity. At times suggesting a primordial life-force inherent in nature, at others evoking a desperate sense of entrapment – in the body, in the anxious mind and in the newly and steadily frightening world around us. Like scars from old wounds, the works their own selves. As if to prove that the most intensely personal is often the most universal.
