Renaissances of Public Art:
PUBLICA 2016 by Surbhi Modi and Jaipur Travel Photo Festival

Santanu Ganguly

There is a good sign or a sort of revolution that has started in the field of public art. Not only artists but also the connoisseurs are coming together to create the space and more awareness to promote the importance of public art. After the resounding success of the 2013 edition, PUBLICA, the public arts festival, returned to Delhi in 2016 in a bigger, more engaging and more international form. The second edition of the festival took place in Delhi and Mumbai starting from 23 January to 29 February, 2016. PUBLICA 2016 invited Indian and International artists to produce works to feature in the festival under this year’s curatorial theme, ‘Touch’. Artists made site-specific works responding to the local context and guided by the festival’s theme. The works were placed in high footfall areas around Delhi and for the first time Mumbai, in an attempt to touch as many people as possible.
