Restrained Rhythms :
A. Balasubramaniam @ Talwar Gallery, New Delhi

Uma Nair

“In the work of the cavity I thought of the balloon-the pressure of the wind-the human body both from out and also within—how the outer skin folds and goes inside. When I used the—stone-I thought of two things of the flexibility of the material as well as the identity of something being like a –mass- heavy with its own volume but also being large because it was filled with air”.

Allowing the materials to speak to him, A.Balasubramaniam builds self-contained worlds that mysteriously communicate with their outer surroundings…Texture is deeply important to Balasubramaniam in this show at Talwar Gallery in Delhi. He
emphasizes the facade of the wood, grained and contoured and planed to reveal the character of the colourative zones even as it looks smoked like embers. This show at Talwar Gallery is about unraveling the surface of his ideation of ‘Waves’, the elements of land and sea even as he uses shale and sandstone and wood thus revealing to us the character of his creations, becoming indicative of the creative process and holding interests of abstract idioms and summations by themself.
