Veteran Artist Rabindra Krishna Paul’s
First Retrospective in the Capital [Delhi]

Anindya Kanti Biswas

Veteran artist Rabindra Krishna Paul’s first and ever Retrospective was showcased in one of New Delhi’s most reputed Lokayata Art Gallery at Hauz Khas village from 20th-26th March 2015. No doubt this is an exceptional show in the capital city of India after a long gap/period and its impact lingered with the spectators mind forever. I, myself am the curator and have chosen 61 best paintings out of 450 works which were done in either tempera or wash ranging from 1951 to 2006. Rabindra Krishna Paul is one of the direct disciples of legendary artist Nandalal Bose. Like his guru, the qualities that this calm and quiet man R.K. Paul had are reflected in all his art. As the man needs to be watched hour after hour with pleasant surprise, so are his works to be eyed with great astonishment. In a word, all his works bear testimony to all the characteristic traits of him. In fact he has depicted what he loves. The artist saw everything, not only with the external sense of the eye, but also with eye of the psyche. That is why each of his works of art is so full of potentiality and vivacity. Even after watching his works again and again no ennui and boredom grows in the watcher. It is discernable how this octogenarian gets such strength and potentiality.
