Art&Deal : How would you describe your ‘style’ of work?

Dhaneshwar Shah: In simple way I am an animal painter and my way of language or style of art work is much closer to Expressionist. I always try to express certain feelings about something. My art work never speaks very directly,it contains a lot of hidden layers .I am highly influenced by the tribal & aboriginal art and their philosophy .This kind of style reflects my identity and personality in art world.

AD: What is your favourite work of art you have created? Also the line of thought behind it?

DS: Well, I am little confused, but I think “Elephant with Rats” art work is both my personal favourite and popular otherwise too. As a description of art work, this painting basically is based on the folk tale Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves .In this painting elephant represents the character of Ali Baba and forty rats was the Forty Thieves. This art work was also published on the front page of “Asian Art News”,an art magazine from Hong Kong. This art work was my most successful work because people liked the idea and because it was very simple to understand through the visual language. On other hand collectors and gallerists appreciated it for my style of work and representation.

AD: Can you please pick one of works of any other artist that inspires you?

DS: “Starry Night” created by Vincent Van Gough. He is really a great master, I am inspired by his work and life. It always teaches me something new. The night sky depicted in the Starry Night painting is brimming with whirling clouds, burning stars, and a bright crescent moon. Artist creates a spiral effect and draws attention to the sky with use of white and yellow. Vertical lines such as the cypress tree and church tower softly break up the composition without retracting from the powerful night sky. Artist uses color to convey emotion and energy.
